Africa

1.I choose south  Africa because it has lots of things like  places and the animals look cuteBest African Vacation: Madagascar, Egypt, Morocco | National Geographic Expeditions

2.some areas in south Africa are warm and others are cold depending on the seasons

3.I love

  • Africa is the second-largest continent in the world, covering over 30 million square kilometers (about 11.7 million square miles), which is about 20% of Earth’s total land area.

  • It consists of 54 countries, each with its own unique geography, culture, and history.

  • Africa has many diverse landscapes, from vast deserts like the Sahara (the world’s largest hot desert) to dense rainforests in Central Africa (like the Congo Basin) and extensive savannas in East Africa (like the Serengeti).

2. Cultural Diversity

  • Africa is home to over 1,500 languages, with Swahili, Arabic, Hausa, Amharic, and Yoruba being some of the most spoken.

  • The continent is incredibly rich in ethnic groups, with over 3,000 distinct cultures. For example, the Zulu, Maasai, Berber, Tuareg, and Berber cultures are just a few among many.

  • African music, dance, and art have had a profound influence globally. Popular music genres like Afrobeat, Highlife, Mbalax, and Kwaito originated here.

3. History and Ancient Civilizations

  • Africa is the birthplace of humanity, with fossil evidence showing that humans first evolved on the continent, particularly in East Africa, around 200,000 years ago.

  • Some of the world’s oldest and most advanced ancient civilizations originated in Africa, including:

    • Ancient Egypt, with its iconic pyramids, pharaohs, and monumental achievements in architecture, writing, and mathematics.

    • Carthage, an ancient Phoenician city-state located in modern-day Tunisia.

    • Kingdom of Axum in Ethiopia, which was one of the greatest empires of the ancient world.

    • Great Zimbabwe, known for its stone ruins and impressive architecture.

  • Africa has a complex colonial history. The Scramble for Africa in the 19th century led to European powers dividing the continent into colonies, which had lasting effects on its political and social structures.

4. Wildlife and Nature

  • Africa is renowned for its incredible biodiversity. The continent is home to iconic animals like lions, elephants, giraffes, rhinos, hippos, leopards, and many species of birds and reptiles.

  • The Serengeti in Tanzania and the Maasai Mara in Kenya are famous for the Great Migration, one of the largest animal migrations on Earth, where millions of wildebeest, zebras, and other animals travel across the plains in search of water and food.

  • Africa is also home to vast rainforests (like the Congo), deserts (like the Sahara), mountains (such as Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya), and expansive lakes (such as Lake Victoria, Lake Tanganyika, and Lake Malawi).5. Modern Africa

Camp

Two weeks ago my class and Room 1  went camping with our camp parents. My camp parents name was Whaea Robyn and the people in my group name were Bessie, me, Mokoia and Te atamairangi. I found  this task easy   because I had a lot of amazing people in my group to help me with unloading my bags from the bus. Make  sure. I have my water bottle and my hat this is the link to my video.    https://sites.google.com/kawakawaprimary.co.nz/nrp-daily-reels/wiki-2

water painting

Water paint.

I have been learning how to do long brush strokes with our brushes . Hold your brush like a paint brush not a pencil. I found it hard because I had to make sure I did long brush strokes. One thing I could do better is make sure for next time I use long brush strokes with my water painting.

Encanto

Encanto. This week I have been learning about the movie Encanto, it was a movies about a fairy tale and the characters were Isabella, Deloris, Miderbel, her nan. When her nana’s partner was alive and she had her kids they had to leave because there were bad people who wanted to steal the children. There was lots of singing in the movie, I liked the singing lots. Next week we will watch the movie in te reo Maori to help us with our te reo and because we are the reo class.I found this task interesting and hard to blog. I can’t wait to see it in the cinemas.m

Ballet

This week I have been learning about   ballet  because in 4 more weeks  we have a performance in Kerikeri and I’m really excited to go on stage to do ballet. The easy part about ballet was watching our ballet teacher show us all of the new dance moves. The hard bit was doing the dances. The name of our dance is killer blood  because we are like the killers of ballet.

Knowing stories

We have been learning about why we are a Manaiakalani school, and we retold the story in the right order to help us connect with why we are special. We talked  about why our names are important and what maui was like. We recorded ourselves telling this story on a Chromebook with a Camara. You can see it here.I found this task easy because I had a buddy and we keept on practiceing. it

if  I recorded  another  story like this to share  I might write  about matariki

      Waiti facts

I have been learning why Waiti is important. I created a poster about Waiti. I used a lot of facts and detail in my work. I like this song about Waiti and Waita. The easy part about my Waiti mahi is learning the songs. The hard part about the mahi was trying to think about the way we wanted our poster to look. My next step is to say some of the kupu that I learned.  My 2 step is to listen more to my teacher.
